October 1936. The roar of the Alfa Romeo shakes the Roosevelt Raceway on Long Island. Behind the wheel, a slight man, wearing his unmistakable yellow sweater and a small turtle on his chest: Tazio Nuvolari. Before the American crowd, while the homegrown giants race on their own turf, Tazio dances through the curves of the Roosevelt Raceway and beats them. He does not simply race: he brings to the heart of the New World the courage, talent, and soul of an Italy capable of challenging the impossible. But behind the myth of speed, there is much more. In this exhibition, you will discover the man: the photographer, the designer, the inventor; the Italian capable of turning every challenge into a new achievement. A journey through history, emotion, and legend, where the past comes alive again and Nuvolari's incredible story meets New York and the heart of Italian Americans once more. Because with Tazio Nuvolari, every race was an adventure, every challenge a story that has crossed time and become LEGEND.
"It will not just be an exhibition, we will bring Tazio's breath and his life as it has never been known before", states Curator Fabio Castagna (Head of the Digital Bank of the Tazio Nuvolari Museum - ITALY, Director Giuseppe Pottocar). We will transform memory into a sensory experience that will bring the Italian American Museum of New York and our Museum in Mantua together in one great transatlantic embrace.
